The Future Effect

Read: 2 Samuel 9

And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table always.” 2 Samuel 9:7

What we do or don’t do today will greatly affect the future, be it ours or the next generation. More so when we become parents. The way we treat people today is how our children will be treated in the future.

2 Samuel 9 shows us an example of this. In the story, David was asking if there was still someone from the house of Saul left, and it was made known to him that Mephibosheth was still alive. When David met Mephibosheth, David told him that he will show him kindness for the sake of his father Jonathan. David and Jonathan were the best of friends. In fact, it was Jonathan who warned David of King Saul’s (Jonathan’s father) plot to kill David and helped David escape. Now that Jonathan’s dead and David is king, David did not forget his friend’s kindness and extended the same to Jonathan’s son.

So, take heed of what Jesus said: “Love your neighbor as yourself” and “Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you”. Your obedience will not only do you good but that of your future or your children’s future as well.

POINT TO REMEMBER:
Love others and treat them right to make the future bright.
